Developers can expect end-to-end development solutions from Metrowerks on initial sampling of the MPC8349E family of next generation PowerQUICC II Pro integrated communications processors from Freescale Semiconductor.
Metrowerks is working closely with Freescale Semiconductor to provide system developers using MPC8349E family devices with support throughout the embedded development process.
The Metrowerks solutions include board bring-up, driver development, application creation, code analysis, and Linux kernel-level debugging capabilities that speed and simplify the creation of products within complex embedded environments.
Metrowerks plans to support the MPC8349E family with the following products: PowerTap Pro; CodeWarrior Development Studio, PowerPC ISA Edition; a Linux board support package; CodeWarrior Development Studio, Embedded Linux Edition for PowerPC Architectures; Platform Creation Suite; and CodeTest software analysis tools.
The MPC8349E family is the first PowerQUICC II product line to leverage a system-on-chip (SoC) architecture, enabling rapid reconfiguration of functional blocks to address customer and market needs.
The MPC8349E family is based on the e300 core, an enhanced version of the 603e PowerPC core used in PowerQUICC II processors.
Using Metrowerks solutions, developers can create SoC-based products for Ethernet routers and switches, wireless LAN equipment, embedded security devices and other networking equipment.
Availability of CodeWarrior Development Studio, PowerPC ISA Edition, the Metrowerks BSP for the MPC8349E family, and a version of CodeWarrior Development Studio, Embedded Linux Edition for PowerPC optimised for the family, is scheduled to coincide with the planned release of the MPC8349E family in Q4 2004.
All other Metrowerks offerings for the MPC8349E family are available now.
