According to Monterey Design Systems fiscal year 2002 was the most successful in its history

Key achievements included the addition of over a dozen new customer accounts; sales to three of the top five semiconductor companies in the world; delivering the EDA industry's only second-generation RTL-to-GDSII solution; expansion of its sales, support, and distribution network, with new offices opening in North America, Europe, China, Taiwan, and Russia; and most importantly, customer tapeouts of some of the most advanced ICs ever produced.

Despite the tough economic climate, the company enjoyed 60% year-over-year revenue growth, with a 300% increase in revenue from tapeout fees.

"2002 was a breakthrough year for Monterey", said Jacques Benkoski, President and CEO at Monterey.

"Our growth rate for the year eclipsed that of all other vendors of IC implementation products.

We closed both initial and proliferation sales in all major markets to the largest semiconductor companies in the world.

More and more, the industry is embracing the Monterey progressive refinement approach to design combining design planning, prototyping, and implementation in a unified environment to streamline physical design and implementation".

Monterey added over a dozen new customers to its rapidly expanding base, including Toshiba, AMCC, CISRA (Canon-Australia), NetLogic, Chameleon, Astek, uNav and AAI, among others.

Customers that publicly acknowledged Monterey tools for designs taped out during 2002 included STMicroelectronics, Fujitsu, Zoran, LSI Logic, Canon, TeraChip, NetLogic, and Tau Networks.

The company increased its global presence by opening direct sales offices in Boston, Dallas, Italy and China.

In addition, new distributors were added in Taiwan and Russia.

"With a strong backlog, superior products, a world-class sales and support organisation, and a growing list of customer successes, Monterey is poised to assume a position of market leadership in 2003", added Benkoski.
