Dr Olivier Coudert, senior technologist for Monterey Design Systems, has received a "SIGDA Technical Leadership Award" for his efforts on behalf of the SIGDA (Special Interest Group on Design Automation) PhD Forum. Coudert cofounded the forum 5 years ago. The PhD Forum is now the largest PhD and industry exchange forum in the EDA industry.
It is held annually at the Design Automation Conference.
This year's forum at the 39th DAC in New Orleans drew more than 500 attendees.
The PhD Forum is a session hosted by SIGDA for PhD students to present and discuss their thesis work with people in the design automation community.

It is an opportunity for the PhD students to get feedback on their work and for the industry to preview academic work in progress.
"It is truly an honour to receive this award", stated Coudert.
"When I cofounded the forum with Soha Hassoun a few years ago, our goal was to establish a regular gathering that would enable communication and the exchange of ideas between PhD students and the industry.
The forum has grown steadily since its inception and now presents a unique opportunity for industry to both observe and influence future research efforts and for academia to discuss potential practical applications of their work".
(Hassoun is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Tufts University.) Coudert has been with Monterey for 4 years and is responsible for Monterey technology used throughout the entire product line timing analysis, logic optimisation, placement, and clock tree synthesis.
