The ComStruct IGP (integrated gateway platform) series from Motorola Computer Group is a range of application-ready platforms designed to accelerate development of OEM media gateways

Each model in the ComStruct IGP series is an open-standards based, highly integrated and fully tested system incorporating all the components required of a media gateway. This means that a telecomms OEM has only to add and test its application before going to market, which can help to reduce the time needed to deliver its complete media gateway solution to carriers, service providers or ISPs by up to nine months.

The ComStruct IGP series is designed to scale from 120 ports to 20,000 ports per shelf, which represents the highest port density available in the open standards industry today.

The first integrated platform in the series is the ComStruct IGP1000, offering up to 360 ports of compressed VoIP and is therefore a cost-effective solution for gateway development projects, enterprise VoIP applications and digital local loop services.

Integrated into an open standard CompactPCI chassis are an application processor board, multiple packet voice processor boards, a high availability operating system, and Motorola's industry-leading FACT-MG gateway development software, which features full resource management.

The ComStruct IGP1000 also includes example applications to allow customers to evaluate voice quality and stability, investigate technology such as SIP or simulate larger installations.

"The convergence of traditional voice and data networks will continue to drive a significant market need for products like packet telephony gateways for the foreseeable future", said Norm Bogen, director of WAN infrastructure and services for Cahners In-Stat Group.

"With reduced budgets and limited internal resources, equipment manufacturers will need to carefully analyse how they can best take advantage of open technologies while still delivering a differentiated end-product.

Motorola Computer Group is shedding light on this issue by combining open standard products with infrastructure expertise in an innovative new platform that can offer OEMs a jumpstart into the marketplace.

The integrated gateway series is an industry first - a redefining of the typical role an outsourcing partner can play for OEMs".

"The ComStruct IGP series is designed to work 'out-of-the-box', so a developer can customise it or add an application layer with minimal effort.

What's more, it's built as a totally open platform that allows a customer to add hardware, software or protocol stacks from the open source community to create their own distinct solution", said Pete Rendek, director of telecom product marketing at Motorola Computer Group.

"Customers have been asking us to enable them to focus their increasingly scarce engineering resources on developing their core applications and move away from integration work - effectively outsourcing their projects at a much higher level.

The ComStruct IGP series is the answer".

Built around a common platform and software architecture, the ComStruct IGP series is designed to maximise flexibility and scalability allowing OEMs to easily migrate their applications from development through prototype to deployment.

Other models in the ComStruct IGP series will build on Motorola's extensive product range, including the award winning MXP multiservice packet transport platform, in order to address the deployment of broadband access gateways, media service platforms, IP and ATM trunking gateways, core network switch replacement, and 3G wireless media gateways.

The ComStruct IGP1000 is expected to be available in May 2002 with a list price of $20,272.

Further products in the ComStruct IGP series are expected to be launched during 2002.
