Prototype platform takes
latest DSP onboard
The 600MHz TMS320C6416 DSP from Texas Instruments has now been integrated into Motorola Computer Group's ComStruct CPCI/C6800 prototype platform, just one week after the device started sampling
Texas Instruments claims that devices based on its TMS320C64x DSP core will give wireless, broadband and imaging designers up to 15 times the performance and one-third the power dissipation of any existing digital signal processor. The new TMS320C6416 DSP helps telecomms OEMs to maximise channel density and minimise cost and power consumption per port in applications such as the Node B in 3G basestations and media gateways within an 'all-IP' core network.

The ComStruct platform enables telecom OEMs to leverage the performance of the new DSP while benefiting from the ease of development and reduced time-to-market of an open-standards based communications platform.
ComStruct wireless platforms address functions such as baseband processing in the 3G radio access network and voice transcoding in the core network.
Leading edge DSP technology, such as the TMS320C6416, is integrated with Motorola communications processors and network interfaces to provide a comprehensive and balanced network processing element for building next generation wireless networks.
Use of a prototyping platform accelerates the time to market of the fully featured, high density ComStruct CPCI/C6800 and provides a basis for early software and application development.
