Mektron Systems has released a range of ATR (air transport rack) enclosures designed specifically to enable the use of forced-air-cooled commercial or industrial grade electronics hardware in airborne or land mobile (vetronics) applications. The range has been developed as a direct result of the company's progressive proactive COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) policy coupled with extensive applications experience gained through involvement in major defence programmes scoping fixed/rotary wing avionics, sea-going and land mobile applications. Conforming to ARINC specifications, Mektron's MA Series of ATR enclosures provide a large number of configurable options by adapting any of the ten different standard ARINC case sizes.
Full- or semi-customisation is readily available to full MIL-Spec standards but at substantial cost savings over traditional full MIL-Spec enclosures.
The general composition comprises rugged 3mm thick sheet aluminium with bolted construction that uses locking bushes throughout to ensure fixing integrity.
All external panels are fully gasketed on their interfacing surfaces for optimum EMC and hermetic performance and incorporate Mektron's revolutionary patented 'crush-fold' technique for extremely effective EMC protection.
These ATR units have been designed for avionics tray mounting via front hold down hooks and rear end dowel receptacles but can be easily adapted to suit other mounting structures.
A number of thermal management options are available including self-contained front to back evacuation or pressurised forced air, or a combination of both, to give a push-pull arrangement.
The range can also be specifically adapted to accommodate externally generated forced air via an avionics-mounting tray/plenum assembly.
All ventilation apertures are fitted with EMC honeycomb filters.
Internal to the enclosure is a ruggedised cardframe that if required can be shock and vibration isolated.
Constructed from high tensile strength extrusions and screwed down card guides the cardframe is configurable for either top or side VME/Eurocard daughterboard loading.
The MA series of enclosures can accommodate a wide variety of power supply solutions including DC, single and three phase AC inputs.
All power components are VDE, UL and CSA approved.
Mektron offers a wealth of experience in the integration of cost-effective enclosure power systems for COTS airborne applications.
