CAN transceiver saves automotive power
The MAX13041 also features fail-safe modes to prevent damage to the device or interference with CANbus communication.
The MAX13041 is a +/-80V fault-protected high-speed, automotive CAN transceiver from Maxim Integrated Products that provides an advanced interface between the protocol controller and the physical bus in a controller area network (CAN) node Advanced power-management features enable this transceiver to minimise power consumption in ECU modules that are permanently supplied by a battery

New from Maxim Integrated Products, the MAX1162 serial-interface 16bit A/D convertor connects directly to SPI, QSPI and Microwire devices without additional interface logic.
Additionally, the MAX13041 provides an extended, +/-80V fault-protected voltage range and +/-12kV (human body model) ESD protection on the CANbus lines, making it ideal for robust +12V/+42V automotive and truck applications.
Primarily intended for high-speed (up to 1Mbit/s), automotive CAN applications, it is also well suited for industrial applications.
To minimise current consumption, the MAX13041 features enhanced power management for clamp-30 always-on nodes.
Five modes of operation provide different levels of functionality to optimise power consumption.
In sleep mode, the ECU is completely powered down, thereby reducing current consumption to 18uA (typical).
On local or CANbus activity, the MAX13041 enables the onboard voltage regulator, restoring power to the entire clamp-30 node.
Wake-up source recognition can be interrogated by the onboard microcontroller.
Designed for harsh operating conditions, this device features enhanced diagnostics and overtemperature protection.
Capable of detecting local and remote bus failures, the MAX13041 features fail-safe modes to prevent damage to the device or interference with CANbus communication.
Seven internal flags are used to indicate various fault conditions; five of these flags are available to the system CAN controller.
The diagnostic features of the MAX13041, combined with its passive behaviour in the absence of power, enable the construction of safe and reliable CAN nodes.
The MAX13041 conforms to the ISO 11898-2 specification, and it offers excellent EMC performance and ultra-low power consumption.
Available in a lead-free, RoHS-compliant, 14-pin SO package, this device is fully specified over the -40 to +125C automotive temperature range.
Prices start at US $0.89 (1000-up, FOB USA).
