The MAX1908 is a highly integrated, multichemistry battery charger that simplifies the construction of accurate, efficient chargers.

The MAX1908 is a highly integrated, multichemistry battery charger that simplifies the construction of accurate, efficient chargers The MAX1908 charges two to four lithium ion (Li+) series cells, providing 4A of charging current

When charging, this device automatically transitions from regulating current to regulating voltage.

Programmed by the host or hardwired, this device uses analogue inputs to control charge current and voltage.

Its buck topology with synchronous rectification achieves high efficiency.

The MAX1908's outputs monitor battery charging current, the presence of an AC adapter, and the currents drawn from it.

To reduce the cost of the AC adapter, the MAX1908 allows programming of the maximum current drawn from the AC adapter.

This avoids overloading the AC adapter when simultaneously supplying the load and the battery charger.

This device provides 0.5% accurate battery voltage regulation, which extends battery capacity and minimises charging times.

Additionally, the MAX1908 provides excellent control of charger parameters.

With 5% accurate charge current regulation and AC adapter current limiting using only 15 milliohms resistors, hot spots in the system are eliminated.

The MAX1908 is packaged in a space-saving 28-pin QFN (5 x 5mm) and is specified for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40 to +85C).

Prices start at $5.04 (1000-up, FOB USA).
