LynuxWorks has released its BlueCat Linux embedded operating system for the AMCC PowerPC 440EP processor
Based on the Linux 2.6 kernel, BlueCat Linux is designed to provide a stable embedded operating system (OS) and deliver the flexibility and cost benefits of open source software for a wide range of embedded systems and applications. Customers interested in evaluating BlueCat Linux with the 440EP processor can so do with the recently introduced evaluation kit from AMCC.

The PowerPC 440EP embedded processor from AMCC offers exceptional performance, design flexibility, and robust features geared to demanding imaging, industrial control, networking and other embedded applications.
With speeds of up to 533MHz, PowerPC Book E architecture, and a rich peripheral mix, PowerPC 440EP processors are ideally suited for a wide range of high-performance applications.
The 440EP features state-of-the-art peripherals including DDR SDRAM, and extensive connectivity via Ethernet, USB, UARTs, IIC, SPI and PCI.
BlueCat Linux for the PowerPC 440EP offers developers a commercial Embedded Linux software environment where a balance of high performance and low power are needed for the most intensive computing environments, including applications within the digital imaging, telematics and industrial automation markets.

The AMCC PowerPC 440EP evaluation kit allows customers to perform a comprehensive evaluation of the 440EP processor and use the BlueCat Linux design as a starting-point for their own product development to accelerate system development time.
Developers who choose BlueCat Linux for the PowerPC 440EP will also have access to a variety of advanced embedded development tools from LynuxWorks such as VisualLynux, SpyKer and Luminosity to enhance product quality and reliability and rapidly deploy products to market at a significantly lower cost.
VisualLynux is an extension of Microsoft Visual Studio IDE that enables developers to build applications in a Windows host environment to accelerate development time while improving product performance and quality.
LynuxWorks SpyKer is the first dynamic instrumented system trace analyser that allows developers to accurately perform event tracing to not only gather, display and interact with data concerning their applications, but also accelerate development and debugging with easy, anytime visibility into their product design process.
Luminosity is a full-featured Java-based IDE tool that is based on the Eclispe platform and provides a fast and easy way to create, edit, compile, manage, and debug embedded and real-time applications.
