powers novel cycle light
The charging electronics for an innovative solar powered cycle light have been specially designed by Lawtronics
The light, which is the brainchild of Trevor Grace of Energy Capture, offers keen cyclists the independence of not having to rely on fresh batteries or the use of a dynamo. Conceived for the increasingly high tech world of today's cyclists, the light also incorporates a 3.6V output suitable for powering accessories such as a mobile phone, GPS unit, two-way radio or digital camera.

Lawtronics' design brief was to enable charging of the light's nickel metal hydride batteries from a high performance solar array rated at 1.1W, as well as from mains and dynamo input to insure against prolonged bad weather.
By using the latest techniques in intelligent charger design, Lawtronics was able to design and manufacture the multipurpose electronics within the specified limitations of space and performance.
The electronics include undervoltage lockout as well as control circuitry for charge and discharge overcurrent and overtemperature protection.
Inventor Trevor Grace commented: 'Lawtronics had the expertise we were looking for when it came to battery management.
They came up with good solutions, which have also proved cost-effective'.
