Livingston's investment in new test equipment to expand its existing optical calibration capabilities has helped to drastically cut down calibration turnaround times and reduce the calibration costs to customers. The company has invested more than GBP 100,000 over the past six months and also experienced a 20% increase in volume achieved during this period.
"Along with developing Livingston's in-house OTDR calibration potential, the equipment we purchased allows us to increase our in-house technical testing capabilities to include 1625nm wavelengths.
We can now cover 850, 1300, 1550 and 1625nm wavelengths", said Demetrios Pieros, Livingston's Calibration Manager.
Maz Evans, Livingston's Operations Manager explains the customer benefits.

"We have calibrated optical test equipment for the past 5 years, mainly hand-held optical power meters, sources and attenuators.
Previously we had to subcontract some of the equipment from our calibration contracts to one of our partners.
Purchasing this new equipment means we now calibrate around 90% of our customers optical calibration requirements in-house.
Being able to carry out this work in-house means we have reduced the calibration turnaround time by around 50% and reduced the calibration costs to our customers by between 20 and 30%.
Next year further investment plans will allow us to calibrate 100% of our optical test requirement in-house.
This will help us be even more competitive for new and existing customers with an ever increasing technical capability".
