Grundig's hard disk DVD recorder with YesVideo technology and LSI media processors allows consumers to create their own Hollywood style DVDs

Grundig has selected the DoMiNo 8652 (DMN-8652) processor for its recently launched GDR 5550 HDD DVD recorder. The DMN-8652 is a highly integrated single-chip solution for HDD/DVD devices which offers advanced features, while reducing bill of materials (BOM) costs. 'As a leader in entertainment electronics, it is important for us to design devices that are user-friendly and built for the future'.

'We selected LSI for its leading-edge technology, which has allowed us to offer customers added features, quality and performance', stated Wolfgang Gsanger, director, Product Group Digital Storage, Grundig.

'We were also able to leverage the LSI DMN-8652 manufacturing kit (MK), allowing us to drastically streamline our development time which is crucial in such a fast- moving and competitive marketplace'.

The LSI DMN-8652 manufacturing kit (MK) is a complete hardware and software reference platform which includes features such as full DVD playback, HDD to DVD dubbing and time-shifting.

The GDR 5550 HDD DVD product offers an automatic 3-hour time-shift feature and permits up to 270 hours of time delayed television viewing, plus the capability for subsequent editing.

The LSI DoMiNo media processor also gives Grundig's customers access to the YesDVD feature which facilitates easy one button transfer of home movies to a Hollywood style DVD.

Users can easily turn their home movies into professional-looking DVDs, complete with onscreen disc menus and intelligently selected chapters with picture thumbnails for easy navigation.

The YesDVD feature on the Grundig GDR 5550 HDD DVD recorder includes a smart onscreen menu, which provides clear prompts for creating a YesDVD, with the click of a button on the DVD recorder remote control.

YesDVD software automatically creates up to 54 chapter scenes by detecting natural scene breaks in the video source, and also creates DVD chapter menus for easy searching and viewing.

YesDVD also creates a DVD video cover which can be printed from any PC.

'By working with industry-leading partners such as Grundig and YesVideo to deliver cutting-edge, easy-to-use, high-quality products, we're enhancing the quality of the consumer experience', stated Wilkie Lau, Director of Customer Marketing, Consumer Products Group, LSI Logic.

'Leveraging our market leadership and leading technology, LSI is continuing to deliver innovative features for DVD recorder products around the world'.

DoMiNo DVD recorder system processors are highly integrated solutions for either high-performance or entry-level combination products.

Key features include: MPEG-4 encoding and decoding, DivX certified playback, integrated IEEE-1394 interface (Direct Digital Dub), high-speed dubbing from HDD to DVD, and motion compensated noise reduction of analogue video inputs for the highest-quality video.
