"The combination of the superior bandwidth and high-performance processing power of the LSI Logic HomeBase ADSL silicon and Intersil's complete high rate IEEE802.11 WLAN PRISM silicon and firmware, provides manufacturers with everything required to produce ADSL modems for the fast-growing WLAN market", said Dave Feller, Director of Marketing for Intersil's Wireless Networking Product Group.
"This type of turnkey capability will meet stringent cost, performance and time-to-market requirements and stimulate development of many new types of wireless Internet appliances for the home and office".
The new reference design kit from LSI Logic requires minimal resources from manufacturers for a complete WLAN ADSL based product.

The reference design uses the LSI Logic HomeBase ADSL chipset, a part of the LSI Logic family of xDSL solutions designed for the customer premise equipment (CPE) market.
At the heart of the HomeBase chipset is the AR900, a highly integrated, low power network processor for optimal bandwidth and software performance.
On the WAN side the AR900 connects to the company's performance-leading SpeedReach technology, consisting of integrated DMT and analogue front end, and on the LAN side to the L80225, a 10/100 Ethernet PHY.
Delivering superior performance across all loops, the HomeBase chipset has demonstrated the highest packet throughput even at high line rates of 8Mbit/s downstream and 1Mbit/s upstream.
"Intersil's PRISM WLAN chipset is the world's leading silicon solution for wireless networking systems", said Stephen Ellwood, Director of Marketing of the DSL Products business unit, LSI Logic.
"As consumer demand for devices with wireless access is rapidly growing, this reference design provides our customers a ready-to-manufacture solution based on the LSI Logic advanced HomeBase technology".
