Demodulator features in
approved cable modems
Cable modem models featuring the LSI Logic L2161 single-chip demodulator have received DOCSIS 1.1 (data over cable service interface specification) and DOCSIS 1.0 certification from CableLabs
The development and certification of the LSI Logic L2161 is the result of the company's system-on-chip expertise and its strategic relationship with Correlant, the top OEM supplier of DOCSIS cable modems. "DOCSIS 1.1 was designed to help cable service providers generate additional revenue by offering new services to their customers", said Michael Harris, president of Kinetic Strategies, a Phoenix-based cable industry analyst group.

To receive DOCSIS 1.1 certification, modem products using the LSI Logic L2161 chip had to pass rigorous tests in the areas of interoperability, stability, and specification conformance.
DOCSIS 1.1 was developed by CableLabs to enable cable providers to deliver high-speed Internet-based services over the same line and in a parallel path to video content, which is at the core of cable offerings.
DOCSIS 1.1 allows cable providers to increase advanced cable services into areas such as home networking and packet telephony.
"LSI Logic has always been dedicated to developing technologies that allow our customers to increase functionality and reduce costs; supporting DOCSIS 1.1 was a natural evolution of our cable modem products", said Christopher Adams, vice president of broadband gateway products for LSI Logic.
"This certification is another step toward our goal to provide cable modem and set-top box designers with complete solutions, from cost-effective modems to full voice/data/video gateways.
Our Hi-IQ RF tuner (DPS7000), media processors and controllers (AViA 9600 or SC2005), and advanced ZSP processors for VoIP applications, are just some of the technologies we offer to make the networked digital home a reality".
