Leveraging the low bit rate and interactive capabilities of MPEG-4, the companies will offer a compelling set of content and service offerings that are cost-effective for device manufacturers and service providers.
"This new relationship represents a seminal event in the MPEG-4 industry-just as the introduction of MPEG-2 encode and decode in the mid-1990s changed the face of television and movie distribution to homes", said Elliot Broadwin, CEO of iVAST.
"The development of MPEG-2 chips enabled whole new content distribution platforms, including DVDs as well as direct broadcast satellite and digital cable services; this partnership between iVAST and LSI Logic further changes the landscape of digital media distribution, enabling distribution of interactive, broadcast-quality video over physical media, broadcast networks and the Internet".

LSI Logic is a recognised market leader in digital video codecs and has been a pioneer in deploying MPEG technology.
The company's DoMiNo architecture delivers advanced MPEG-4 compression technology, enabling high-quality, full-screen video up to 1.5Mbit/s, coupled with built-in AAC, MP3 and CELP audio solutions on a single device.
The iVAST MPEG-4 Platform encompasses a full range of products to create, deliver and play back MPEG-4 rich media content, with tools for content creation; software MPEG-4 encode and decode; a server for on-demand streaming; and a feature-rich MPEG-4-compliant media engine that presents interactive scenes and objects.
When integrated, these technologies can support a full range of MPEG-4 media presentations, including advanced audio, video, graphics and animation, allowing the user to have a fully interactive experience through low-bitrate applications.
"We are very excited about our collaboration with iVAST, which has established itself as a leading provider of MPEG-4 tools for major Hollywood studios and content creators", said Bob Saffari, senior director of advanced video products marketing and applications engineering at LSI Logic.
"By leveraging our combined experience, we'll be able to produce the highest MPEG-4 video quality to satisfy all the applications we're addressing in the professional, prosumer and consumer markets.
Together, we're looking at the near- and long-term opportunities and implementing on those applications that are suited for each market and geography".
