LSI Logic has joined the Hypertransport Technology Consortium. By incorporating HyperTransport technology into its product plans, LSI Logic is demonstrating its commitment to this free and open industry standard aimed at removing system design bottlenecks and dramatically increasing the performance of future equipment designs. "Membership in the HyperTransport Technology Consortium adds another high- performance interface to our extensive IP portfolio and enables us to maintain a leadership position in providing new I/O interfaces rapidly to our customers", said Thomas Brenner, vice president and general manager of LSI Logic's Networking ASIC Division.
"We believe that the HyperTransport I/O link specification provides a robust solution to address the bandwidth and scalability requirements for new generations of high-performance communications, storage and networking devices".
LSI Logic plans, initially, to offer the HyperTransport physical I/O layer to ASIC customers as part of its Gflx 0.11-micron process technology CoreWare Library with microprocessor cores including MIPS, ARM and ZSP digital signal processor cores plus application-specific cores including Ethernet, Fibre Channel, GigaBlaze, HyperPHY, USB and 1394.
This availability will provide customers and the market with the enhancements and capabilities that they are asking for in order to meet complex designs.
Application specific standard product roadmaps will also incorporate HyperTransport Technology into future product plans.
"LSI Logic is known for bringing innovative technology into the high speed networking ASICs market and the company is a welcome addition to the consortium", said Gabriele Sartori, president of the HyperTransport Technology Consortium.
"LSI Logic's broad capabilities and dedication to advancing the communications revolution makes them a great partner to advance HyperTransport technology as an emerging interconnect standard".
HyperTransport interconnect technology is a new high-speed, high-performance, point-to-point link for integrated circuits, developed to enable the chips inside of high-performance computer, networking and communications devices to communicate with each other faster than with existing technologies.
HyperTransport technology's bandwidth of 12.8Gbyte/s purportedly offers up to a 48-fold increase in data throughput, compared with existing system interconnects that typically provide bandwidth up to 266Mbyte/s.
