ISG Broadband is the first company to use LSI Logic's Hi-IQ RF tuner, the DPS7000.

ISG Broadband is the first company to use LSI Logic's Hi-IQ RF tuner, the DPS7000 The low-power, highly integrated DPS7000 silicon tuner has been selected by ISG to reduce the power and form factor of the company's ISG5000 RF receiver modules

The ISG5000 family comprises the industry's first 3.3V DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS 1.1 modules.

"With LSI Logic's leadership in SoC integration and its proven expertise in the design of high-performance RF silicon, the Hi-IQ tuner was the natural selection to help us address the industry's demanding form factor and power requirements", said James Wang, vice president of engineering for ISG Broadband.

"The combination of the DPS7000, with our highly evolved module system and applications technology, gives OEMs the front-end solutions to drive the cable modem and multituner set-top box markets".

The ISG5000 transceiver modules are a series of RF solutions that interface directly with QAM mod/demod circuit (PHY ICs) and are designed specifically for DOCSIS and Euro DOCSIS cable and set-top applications.

Using LSI Logic's low power DPS7000 RF tuner, the ISG5000 receivers are the first modules to require only a single 3.3V power supply, compared with the typical 5 and 30V supplies.

Additionally, the ISG5000 modules are half the size of comparable discrete tuners and incorporate a transmitter gain control amplifier, IF saw, filters, DC regulation, and all passive elements, for a completely tested RF solution enabling "plug-and-ship" modems.

"We are pleased to be working with an innovative and established module supplier like ISG Broadband", said Phil Welsh, marketing director for LSI Logic's Broadband Access division.

"Their new 5000 series illustrates the importance of integration and low power in this competitive market".

In addition to reducing component count and power, the highly integrated DPS7000 radically reduces factory calibration by removing components that require adjustments after shipping, thereby enhancing reliability and reducing total system cost.

Announced in late September 2001, the DPS7000 is the first product in LSI Logic's wideband RF offering and complements the company's set-top box and cable-modem products, including the MultiLynx 2161/2151, SC2000/2005 and AViA 9600.
