200MHz ARM core boosts SoC performance
LSI Logic has released the industry's first ARM946E-S processor core to run at 200MHz, a significant performance improvement to earlier implementations of the core
LSI Logic's SoC customers who need the highest performance embedded processor cores available will realise the full benefit of the new offering to maximise overall system performance in their increasingly demanding applications. LSI Logic's implementation of this popular core, licensed from ARM, includes 16Kbyte instruction and 16Kbyte data caches and configurable tightly coupled memories (TCMs).

The 200MHz ARM946E-S core extends LSI Logic's broad library of CoreWare products that support the amba 2.0 AHB bus specification.
LSI Logic has already won a number of key customer SoC designs with the new implementation of the ARM946E-S core.
"Reaching 200MHz operation, under worst-case conditions, with the ARM946E-S core is a significant milestone", said Rafi Kedem, senior director of processor cores at LSI Logic.
"Our customers are extremely satisfied with our ability to extend the ARM946E-S core performance range to the 200MHz mark.
Customers now can efficiently use a commodity SDRAM system without leaving memory performance on the table.
This higher performance core also increases the range of key application frequencies that we can address".
LSI Logic was one of ARM's lead partners in the development of the ARM9E-S family, the ARM946E-S core and the ARM966E-S core, and is a lead partner on the recently announced ARM926EJ-S core with the ARM Jazelle Java technology-enabled processor core.
LSI Logic provides a comprehensive offering of processor cores, peripherals, reference designs, platforms, and specialised regional CoreWare design support to help customers implement high performance complex SoC ASIC designs as easily as possible.
The company has standardised on AMBA as its SoC bus standard for all processor related CoreWare and peripherals, including all ARM, MIPS and ZSP processor cores.
