LSI Logic is to license USB 2.0 transceiver technology from Innovative Semiconductors

The SL205 USB transceiver macrocell from Innovative will be integrated into LSI Logic's CoreWare library of IP, giving the company and its customers a cost-effective, scaleable architecture that is ideal for next-generation digital multimedia devices and computer peripherals. "As a global leader in semiconductors for communications, consumer and storage applications, we are always looking for complementary IP solutions", said Matt Pujol, product marketing manager, USB CoreWare Technologies at LSI Logic.

"USB 1.1 is one of the most used cores in the CoreWare library, which includes key technologies such as Ethernet and processor cores.

Innovative's USB 2.0 technology will enhance our offering and enable our customers to develop cost-effective solutions that reduce time-to-market for their USB 2.0 products".

Innovative's family of USB cores is designed for use in computer and consumer peripheral products such as storage devices, printers, scanners, DVDs, camcorders and VCRs.

The SL205 USB transceiver macrocell is a mixed-signal design compliant with the USB Transceiver Macrocell Interface (UTMI) specifications released by Intel.

The design has been ported to several process technologies, such as TSMC 0.18 and 0.25-micron processes and LSI Logic's G12 0.18-micron process.

Nabil Takla, president and CEO of Innovative said, "We are very pleased to add LSI Logic to our list of licensees, which includes many industry-leading companies".

Takla continued, "Our USB mixed-signal technology combined with our video communication expertise will help us lead the way in providing USB 2.0 macrocells for video-communications applications".

Innovative also offers the SL250 USB core, a device controller compliant with the USB 2.0 specification that has been verified in silicon in a high-speed bridge.

The design has successfully met the compliance testing standards set by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) for inclusion in its Integrators List.

It was the first peripheral bridge solution to pass the USB-IF high-speed compliance testing.
