Basestation convertor cuts power budget
A second-generation 14bit 80Msample/s ADC achieves extremely low power consumption with excellent AC performance.
A second-generation 14bit 80Msample/s ADC in Linear Technology's recently announced LTC2220 family achieves extremely low power consumption with excellent AC performance At just 230mW, in a 5 x 5mm QFN package, the LTC2249 is only half the power of its nearest competitor at this speed, has the smallest package and board size, yet achieves over 73dB SNR up to 100MHz input - better than even higher-powered competitors

Convertors boast of AC performance
The fastest ADC in Linear Technology's recently announced LTC2220 family achieves extremely low power consumption with excellent AC performance.
The LTC2249 is one of 13 new ADCs from Linear Technology, as part of its expanding family of low power, high speed ADCs, which range from 10 to 170Msample/s at 12 and 10bit resolution, as well as 14bit convertors up to 80Msample/s.
These low power ADCs excel at undersampling, making them well suited for communications applications such as WCDMA cellular basestation transceivers, digital predistortion power amplifier linearisation, and cable modem termination systems.
This new ADC family complements Linear Technology's previously announced LTC1750 family of 5V ADCs, which achieves unmatched AC performance.

RF mixers take transformers onboard
Linear Technology has released two new high linearity up-converting RF active mixers with integrated RF transformers.
The LTC2220 family of 3V convertors features significantly lower power than competing devices without sacrificing AC performance.
The LTC2249 is ideal for low power basestations as it supports compact transceiver boards with smaller power supplies that require minimal cooling.
The system footprint of the device is small since few external bypasses are needed.
Optimised for undersampling, it suits basestation designs that operate at high intermediate frequencies (IF); the LTC2249 features a 575MHz bandwidth and achieves 85dB SFDR up to 140MHz input.
Pin-compatible versions at sample rates of 65, 40, 25 and 10Msample/s feature even lower power - as low as 60mW.
Pin-compatible 12 and 10bit versions at each speed are also in full production.
In addition to the 13 new ADCs, Linear Technology is already shipping six previously introduced devices in this family.
All the devices are part of the 24-member LTC2220 ADC family, the remaining members of which will be introduced by the fourth calendar quarter.
Linear Technology's new ADC family features industry-leading AC performance at every sample rate, the lowest power of any such ADCs in the industry, and pin-compatibility, allowing easy migration from 10 to 12 or 14bit, or to different sample rates.
In addition to the LTC2249, the other new high-performance, low-power ADCs include the LTC2245/6/7/8, LTC2225/6/7/8/9 and LTC2236/7/8/9.
All 13 ADCs just announced are now in production and are packaged in 5 x 5mm QFN packages. Request a free brochure from Linear Technology Corp ...
