The Castle Group has a weatherproof and dustproof range of sound level meters which use Lemo's rugged and weatherproof K Series connector.

Companies and organisations have a legal responsibility to minimise noise and vibration levels and to take appropriate steps to protect people from the potential associated hazards.

To measure noise and vibration levels accurately, the highest quality instruments are required.

However connectors on handheld instruments, particularly when used in tough environments, are often the cause of product breakdowns.

These instruments require connectors of the highest quality that can ensure repeatable, accurate connection, time after time.

Noise and vibration measurement instrument specialist, The Castle Group, has developed the first weatherproof and dustproof range of sound level meters which use Lemo's rugged and weatherproof K Series connector.

Before designing the new range of noise and vibration meters, The Castle Group determined a market need for a weatherproof instrument.

The Castle Pro-DX Vocis is not only more powerful than its predecessors, but it measures real time sound frequencies and can be used in most adverse weather and environmental conditions.

Simon Bull, Director, Castle Group, explains: "Because meters are regularly used on construction sites, in manufacturing plants and in outdoor locations, we discovered a need by both industry and local authorities for a good quality, all-weather measurement instrument that is tough, waterproof and dust-proof.

Also, because the sensors of the instruments have to be plugged in, we needed an equally tough, waterproof connector of exceptional quality for the new range".

The Castle Group has used Lemo electrical connectors in the manufacture of its precision noise and vibration instruments for many years.

"Although we are regular users of Lemo connectors, we researched the connector market thoroughly before specifying a connector for the new Pro-DX Vocis range", says Simon Bull.

"We tested a number of connectors from different manufacturers but found the Lemo K Series to be the best performer for our new product.

We use Lemo connectors because they keep on working and do not break down and we continue to use them because of the quality and reliability of the components.

This decision is re-enforced by our service return and annual calibration instruments database that has been maintained for the last 25 years.

The database showed a huge drop in service returns when the company changed to Lemo connectors".

The new Castle Pro-DX Vocis range of sound level meters uses the Lemo EGG 1K bulkhead socket and FGG 1K inline plug.

The noise and vibration sensors are available both cable connected and with the Lemo plug built into a unique close coupled microphone preamplifier in which the Lemo FGG 1K in line connector is inserted into a machined housing.

This feature effectively creates a custom connector.

In addition, the soon to be released range of Pro-DX Excieo vibration meters will also use the Lemo connector as an 8-pin version of the 4-pin model that is used on the Pro-DX Vocis range.
