Free pre-emptive kernel
aids digital control
CMX Systems has ported its CMX-Scheduler to the Microchip Technology dsPIC family of 16bit digital signal controllers (DSCs)
CMX-Scheduler is the result of a special collaboration between CMX and Microchip, and it is available as a free download to embedded designers who are planning to use the dsPIC DSC in their applications. CMX-Scheduler is a limited, object-code-only kernel that can be used by embedded engineers for designs that require a minimal, yet pre-emptive kernel to manage tasks.

CMX-Scheduler is also an excellent way for a developer to become familiar with the use of a pre-emptive scheduler in embedded applications.
"We are very pleased that Microchip has selected CMX, from among many potential RTOS vendors, and market our software as important design tools for the dsPIC family of 16bit DSCs", said Chuck Behrmann, President and CEO of CMX.
"CMX offers Microchip's DSC customers an unmatched combination of price and performance".

CMX-Scheduler currently supports the Microchip MPLAB C30 compiler for the dsPIC DSC and offers a path to the more powerful CMX-Tiny+ or CMX-RTX RTOS, should the designer's application grow to require a more fully featured RTOS.
CMX-Scheduler can also be integrated with the small CMX-MicroNet TCP/IP stack for those applications that require networking connectivity.
"We have found CMX's responsiveness and quality of work to be outstanding", said Jerry Michnal, Manager of Applications Engineering for Microchip's Digital Signal Controller Division.
"Their visual approach to tool configuration fits well into our strategy to minimise the learning curve for engineers to design with the dsPIC DSC".
"CMX-RTX is a truly pre-emptive, multitasking RTOS supporting a wide variety of 8, 16, 32 and 64bit microcomputers, microprocessors and DSPs", said Behrmann.
"This lean and mean RTOS offers the smallest footprint, the fastest context switching times, and the lowest interrupt latency times available on the market today".
CMX-Tiny+ is a real time kernel specially designed for those processors that have a small amount of RAM embedded on the processor's silicon.
This allows the user to develop application code and have it run under an RTOS using only the onboard RAM that the processor provides.
CMX-MicroNet is a tiny TCP/IP stack specially crafted to work with virtually all 8 and 16bit processors.
With an extremely small program memory requirement ranging from 3.5 to 16Kbyte (depending on configuration and processor), this networking tool resides and runs directly on the processor with no gateway required.
All tools are supported with a graphical configuration tool to speed the deployment of the product and minimise time to market, and are available from Logic Technology.
