Two new fully integrated low-voltage synchronous-buck DC/DC convertor ICs bring space and cost savings to a broad range of medical, industrial, computing and telecomms applications. The ISL6410 and ISL6410A are the industry's lowest-parts-count power solution and fill the need for a compact and fully integrated power solution for low-voltage applications requiring up to 500mA of continuous output current with low parts count and greater design simplicity. The ISL6410 operates from 3.3V whereas the ISL6410A operates from 5V.

Both ICs include PWM control, MOSFET drivers, a complementary pair of power MOSFETs and a full array of protection features for powering FPGAs, ASICs, DSPs, microcontrollers, small microprocessors and WLAN chipsets.

These synchronous-buck current-mode PWM regulators have integrated N- and P-channel power MOSFETs.

Synchronous rectification with integrated MOSFETs achieves high efficiency while reducing external component count.

Output voltages are pin selected instead of requiring additional external components.

This further reduces parts count and cost.

The high 750kHz (typical) operating frequency enables the use of a small inductor and capacitors.

The PWM control can be synchronized to an external clock signal in the range of 500kHz to 1MHz.

A power good pin is used to signal when the output voltage falls outside the regulation limits.

Additional features include overcurrent protection and thermal overload shutdown.
