A new series of near-chip-scale-packaged power-sequencing ICs is designed for low-voltage applications such as PCs and communications systems

A new series of tiny, near-chip-scale-packaged, power-sequencing ICs is designed for low voltage applications such as found in servers, blade servers, telecomms/datacomms line cards, graphics cards, and other PC and communications systems. The new ISL6123, ISL6124 and ISL6125 low-voltage power sequencers provide designers an efficient, flexible and cost-effective means for safely powering up and powering down low-voltage systems that demand controlled and orderly power sequencing.

All the new power sequencers are packaged in very small and thermally efficient 4 x 4mm quad flat no-lead (QFN) packages and provide four-channel control with soft-start and undervoltage protection.

They are designed to sequence four voltage channels, each in the range of 0.7 to 5.5V, with any-order flexibility.

This flexibility allows the designer to change timing and sequence by simply changing the values of external resistors and capacitors, without requiring any layout changes.

Thus, a single part can be used to address a multitude of different voltage and sequence requirements, rather than having to inventory a different part for each combination of voltages and/or sequences.

Additional flexibility is found in the family itself.

The three power sequencers offer variations in features to allow designers a selection of products from which to choose to more accurately match a particular application.

The ISL6123 and ISL6124 have the same functionality except the ISL6123 has an active-high "enable" pin while the ISL6124 has an active-low "not-enable" pin.

Additionally, the ISL6123 also has an ultra-low-power sleep state when "enable" is low.

The ISL6125 has the same functionality of the ISL6124 but instead of charge-pump driven gate drive outputs it has open-drain logic outputs that can be pulled up to a maximum of the supply voltage.
