WLAN power chip incorporates
three LDOs and more
The ISL6411 triple LDO regulator significantly reduces WLAN board space and costs by combining three regulators, a reset function and extensive circuit protection functions into a single chip
Intersil Corp has combined its expertise in power management and wireless LAN chipset design to develop a new ISL6411 triple low-dropout (LDO) regulator IC that significantly reduces board space and costs by combining three LDO regulators, a reset function and extensive circuit protection functions into a single chip.

The innovative ISL6411 single-chip power solution makes it easy for designers of wireless LAN systems to power the latest generation of small form factor industry standard cards such as PCMCIA, mini-PCI and Cardbus-32.
It is also ideal for WLAN access points used in both business and residential applications.
The ISL6411 is a major development for Intersil as it replaces three regulators and numerous support components on their PRISM WLAN chip set reference designs, reducing complexity, lowering costs and shortening design time.
It offers high integration, high efficiency, ultralow noise with voltage sequencing in a single thin profile package ideal for WLAN designs.
The ISL6411is a complete ultra low noise triple-output linear regulator IC with microprocessor reset and is optimised for powering wireless chip sets.
It accepts an input voltage range of 2.5 to 3.8V and provides three regulated output voltages: 1.8V for baseband processor/media access controller (BBP/MAC), 2.84V for analogue functions, and another 2.84V for voltage controlled oscillator (VCO).
On chip logic provides sequencing for BBP/MAC and analogue supply voltage outputs.
The third LDO features ultralow noise that does not generally exceed 30uV RMS to aid VCO stability.
High integration and the thin quad flat no-lead (QFN) package provide a small DC/DC convertor size.
Other features include extensive protection and monitoring thermal shutdown, current limiting, short circuit protection, reverse battery protection and power good.
Its small size saves around 30% of board area and it features a low-profile QFN 4 x 4mm package.
