Power chip combines
PWM control with LDO
The Endura ISL6226 combo power controller combines a synchronous buck pulsewidth modulation (PWM) controller and a linear low dropout (LDO) regulator in a single 24-lead SSOP
The integrated design reduces parts count and saves board space while offering the industry's lowest cost solution. A wide operating voltage range of 5 to 24V makes this advanced dual controller ideal for powering microprocessor chipsets, memory, audio and graphics ICs in a wide range of portable and fixed products including notebook PCs, web tablets, portable data terminals, point-of-sale terminals, portable instruments, LCD-PCs and blade servers.

The ISL6226 provides a low-cost and flexible power solution with both an advanced PWM controller and a.
Component count and costs of the solution design are reduced because no current sense resistor is needed, no discrete Schottky diode is needed parallel to the lower mosfet and there is only one 5V power pin, which eliminates one bypass capacitor and a resistor.
In addition, only a single resistor is needed for current-limit protection.

The ISL6226 delivers excellent dynamic response, thermal shutdown protection, and high efficiency during light load operation.
The PWM controller features include an output voltage from 0.9V to 93% of the supply voltage, up to 3A output current and a high efficiency over wide a load range.
It also provides hysteresis to preserve efficiency in light-load conditions and lossless current sensing using the mosfet's internal on-resistance.
Switching frequency is 300/600kHz.
It also has comprehensive power protection including thermal shutdown.
The device is packaged in a 24-lead SSOP package, and a complete evaluation platform called the ISL6226EVAL1 is also available.
