Intersil has extended its Endura power regulator family with a new ISL6528 dual regulator IC targeted specifically at the graphics card market. This small 8-lead SOIC dual regulator powers both the graphics processing unit (GPU) and support memory and saves manufacturers board space, parts costs and time-to-market. Other applications for the ISL6528 include powering ASICs, embedded processors and various other DSP ICs.

The ISL6528 is designed to meet the requirements of today's high-end graphics cards which deliver amazingly high-resolution visual effects but demand ever increasing power control for optimum performance.

It is Intersil's first graphics specific power management device and can deliver regulated power to both the GPU and memory on video cards using one standard-buck PWM controller for high-current supply to the graphics processor unit, and a lower-current linear regulator to power the memory.

The new ISL6528 design offers graphic card manufacturers a highly integrated and optimised power management solution that allows them to quickly bring new graphics products to market with lower parts count and less board space while providing improved performance.

The ISL6528 offers fully adjustable outputs (0.8-3.3V) for design flexibility, a high operating frequency (600kHz) allowing smaller and less costly filter components to be used, excellent voltage regulation accuracy (2%) over temperature for ensured reliability and a small external component count to save board space and costs.

The ISL6528 power solution is available with a reference design/evaluation platform (ISL6528EVAL1) backed by full documentation and support.
