Intersil has extended its power management solutions for PCs, file servers and portable information devices with the its Endura ISL6115 and ISL6116 hot-plug/hot-swap power controllers

Intersil has extended its range of power management solutions for PCs, file servers and portable information devices with the its Endura ISL6115 and ISL6116 hot-plug/hot-swap power controllers. The new hot-swap controllers allow modules to be inserted, removed or upgraded without powering down the computer, making them ideal for mission critical applications such as servers and storage systems that require continuous operation with no downtime.

They provide a full range of features needed for critical applications, including over-current fault isolation, adjustable turn-on ramp, and under-voltage monitoring and notification.

The ISL6115 is a +12V high-side single-rail controller intended for hot-plug and hot-swap applications.

More than just a programmable circuit breaker, the ISL6115's feature set includes: undervoltage monitoring and "power good" notification, programmable overcurrent detection and fault isolation, programmable current regulation, programmable current limit time to latch off, rail-to-rail common-mode input voltage range, internal charge pump which allows the use of less-costly N-channel mosfets, adjustable turn on ramp, and fast submicrosecond response to a dead short.

The ISL6116 is a +5V low-side single rail controller with all of the features of the ISL6115 and can be configured for load voltages greater than +15V or negative voltages such as the 48V used in the telecomms industry.

Both products offer customers a high degree of integration resulting in savings in board space and materials costs.

In addition, customers benefit from their unique design and application flexibility, which yields lower manufacturing costs.

Complete reference designs and evaluation boards are available.
