Alliance targets European manufacturing services
Integrated Microelectronics has forged a strategic alliance with BuS Elektronik, an EMS company based in Riesa, Germany.
Integrated Microelectronics (IMI), a leading electronics manufacturing service (EMS) provider in Asia, has forged a strategic alliance with BuS Elektronik, an EMS company based in Riesa, Germany.
This partnership is expected by IMI to result in the expansion of the share of European original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in IMI's revenues.
IMI entered an alliance agreement to seek jointly with BuS Elektronik subcontracting projects from European OEMs and to use BuS Elektronik's facility as fast prototyping and new product introduction centre of the IMI group of companies in Europe.
IMI President and Chief Executive Officer Arthur R Tan said: "This partnership offers a win-win opportunity for both parties".
"IMI's facilities in China, the Philippines, and Singapore can service the customers of BuS who want to develop, produce, or sell their electronics products in Asia".
Tan added: "BuS, on the other hand, will serve as our front-end partner for the prototyping and low volume manufacturing requirements of our European customers".
"When the volume increases, then it becomes more cost-effective to transfer the production to any of our Asian factories".
IMI has become a key EMS industry player in Asia after its merger with Singapore-based EMS company Speedy-Tech Electronics in December 2005.
Its manufacturing facilities in Jiaxing and Shenzhen, China; Laguna, Cavite and Cebu, Philippines; and Singapore serve more than 100 OEMs based in Japan, China, the USA and Europe across various electronics segments.
Europe accounts for 11% of the total revenues of the IMI group of companies.
The goal is to engage more European OEMs in product design and development, and mass manufacturing of their electronics products, and increase their share of IMI revenues to at least 15% by the end of 2006.
BuS Elektronik is a medium-sized EMS provider from Saxony that has established itself in the European market since its foundation in 1991.
Its customer base includes mainly automotive and industrial electronics OEMs.
