Johan Holm of Ibsen Photonics has been awarded the DOPS prize, an annual prize given to an individual whose contribution to the Danish optics field has been of unique quality and importance. The award was given to Holm for his efforts and results in connection with the development and commercialisation of Ibsen's PING gratings - polarisation independent gratings whose main application area is telecomms ROADM/WSS modules.
These gratings offer unprecedented high efficiency and low PDL over a very broad bandwidth and furthermore with unique thermal and environmental stability due to their fused silica nature.
Kent E Mattsson, NKT Research, Chairman of the DOPS prize committee explains: 'Denmark has a notably large number of companies and research institutes within photonics that are renowned throughout the world for their research and products being of highest quality'.
He continues: 'We are proud to support the companies and institutes in this field by once again presenting this DOPS prize to an individual whose efforts continue to keep Denmark at the forefront of photonics'.

Kristian Buchwald, Grating Product Manager at Ibsen remarks: 'Johan Holm has not only developed a novel grating technology, he has also devised a manufacturing technology that allows us to produce gratings in high volumes with cost-efficient semiconductor processing technologies'.
He observes: 'This benefits our telecom customers with competitive pricing as the ROADM/WSS module market continues its impressive growth'.
Torben Jacobsen, President and CEO of Ibsen, comments: 'Ibsen - and Johan - embarked on this product development journey in 2000 to meet the growing needs from telecom ROADM/WSS manufacturers for better gratings'.
He adds: 'We have also incorporated the PING gratings into our I-MON FBG Senor System Interrogation Monitors, where the PING gratings are instrumental in our capabilities to offer very compact, high speed narrowband spectrometers with high resolution'.
