'While MIPS cores have been traditionally aimed at high-end processor designs, Microchip has developed a MIPS-based microcontroller family that brings high performance to embedded applications requiring minimum footprint, power and cost', says David Kleidermacher, Chief Technology Officer, Green Hills Software.
'We are pleased to provide Green Hills Software compilers, performance analysis tools, and the complete Multi tool suite, which are all optimised for the PIC32 family to help realise this vision of top-end performance efficiency'.
The PIC32 MCU family is an extension of Microchip's portfolio of nearly 500 MCUs and DSCs into 32bit complexity, with a compatible pin and peripheral migration path from its 16bit families.
The PIC32 is a high-performance 32bit microcontroller family, based on the M4K core from MIPS Technologies.
M4K is a state-of-the-art 32bit, low-power, RISC processor core with the enhanced MIPS32 Release 2 Instruction Set Architecture.
In addition to its high-performance CPU and low interrupt latency, the PIC32 family supports the MIPS16e 16bit instruction mode for compact code, high-performance DMA, EJTAG debugging, flexible power-management modes and internal code protection.
