Glyn has added MultiTech Systems' embedded ModemModule to its range. The ModemModule creates communication-ready devices by integrating data and fax functionality into a single product design. By integrating the controller, data pump and data access arrangement (DAA) into one module, it interfaces easily with existing products through a standard serial communication channel.
The complete onboard DAA interfaces with an RJ-II jack for direct connection to the public switched telephone network.
Being space-efficient (1 x 2.5in), and with an embedded modem that provides V.90/56K or V.34/33.6K communication, the ModemModule reduces development time and costs for system designers.
The module has successfully completed international compliance testing (homologation) for global approval with a single-module design.
This means that system designers can specify one module for a product without having to integrate specific country approved modules for each system used across the world.
With connection rates from 300 to 56,000bit/s, the ModemModule is targeted at applications that periodically need to send or receive data over a standard telephone line.
It is an ideal solution for data collection, vending/gaming machines, petrol pumps, ATM terminals, ticketing machines and television set-top boxes.
A developers kit is also available, which allows the user to plug in the ModemModule and use it as a modem for testing, programming and evaluation.
The kit includes a development board with a RS-232 DB-25 connector, wall adapter and RJ-II jack and RS-232 cable.
