The Atmel AT24RF08C is an RFID chip that employs the 125kHz industry-standard carrier frequency for long range access applications

Providing highly reliable dual-access EEPROM, two-wire serial interface for extra EEPROM and multi-tag management to handle several tags in the field simultaneously, the AT24RF08C is ideal for a wide range of uses, from keeping track of valuable company assets to tracking PCs during manufacture.

The AT24RF08C functions as a dual-access EEPROM, with both a two-wired serial port and a wireless RFID port used to access the memory.

The two-wire serial interface is compatible with Atmel's standard AT24C08 serial EEPROM, with security that features programmable access protection to limit reads or writes from either port as well as a lock/unlock function.

Its highly reliable onboard 8Kbit EEPROM is organised as eight blocks of 128byte each, and is specified to 100,000 write cycles with 10 years memory retention.

The RFID interface can be powered by a coil antenna, permitting remote reads and writes without the need of a separate power supply.

Connection of an external coil antenna and optional tuning capacitor, normally via a two-conductor wire, is all that is required to RF enable the device.

The new AT24RF08C has an operating temperature range of -40 to +85C and is available housed in an 8-pin JEDEC SOIC package.
