Future offers a
complete Ethernet solution

A complete design solutions package that features all the hardware, firmware, software and tools necessary for developing an embedded network product has been introduced by Future Electronics

The 'Complete Ethernet Solution' Network Development Kit has been developed in conjunction with Motorola, AMD, Vishay and Netburner to enable designs to be completed more quickly and delivered faster to market. 'This network development package is intended to provide a fast-track, integrated design solution for embedded network applications that can cut development time and speed final product launch', comments Fred Knowles, European technical director for Future Electronics.

He continues: 'Designing an Ethernet solution in today's market can be an expensive and frequently time-consuming process, having to select from a multitude of silicon suppliers and developing the appropriate software protocols.

We have developed this network kit to assist designers in overcoming such barriers with a fully tested solution ready for immediate application'.

To promote the new 'Complete Ethernet Solution', Future has produced a comprehensive information pack that will provide designers with all the information necessary to initiating an Ethernet design.

It includes block diagram outlines of the major components in one complete solution; individual product data for the key devices together with full details of hardware and software development tools and an interactive CD-ROM featuring product information, datasheets and applications notes.

Among the key components in this new development kit is the Motorola MCF5272, a highly integrated ColdFire microprocessor offering a new set of communication peripherals, such as a 10/100 Ethernet controller and a USB module, as well as maintaining a range of popular general-purpose peripherals.

Based on a Version 2 (V2) ColdFire core, it achieves the highest V2 performance of any device, with 63 dhrystone 2.1 MIPS at 66MHz.

In addition, the AMD NetPHY provides the physical layer and transceiver functions for the 10/100Mbps Ethernet port.

Operating at 3.3V, it consumes only 0.3W, is IEEE 802.3 compliant and can receive and transmit data reliably at over 130m.

A PECL interface is available for fibre-optic 100BASE-FX applications.

Complementing this is the AMD AM29PL160C page-mode Flash memory, which offers a simple Flash memory solution for high performance embedded systems and features access times of 65, 70, 90 and 120ns.

This allows high-speed microprocessors to operate without wait states.

In addition, the device allows designers to choose a Flash memory solution that can be implemented with little or no glue logic.

Finally, Vishay offers a broad array of passive components that will meet all Ethernet solution needs and which can be easily designed-in via an exclusive free sample programme with Future.
