Shimpei Hirata, a Fujitsu career executive with 25 years experience in the international semiconductor industry, has been named President of Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME). He is based at FME's European headquarters in Dreieich-Buchschlag, near Frankfurt. Hirata succeeded Yutaka Suzuki who has returned to Japan as Group Senior Vice President of Fujitsu's Marketing and Sales Group, Electronic Devices.
Hirata was previously Marketing Strategy Planning Director at Electronic Devices and has held senior positions in System LSI Solution Development.
He started his career with Fujitsu in 1979, working for 12 years as an Application Engineer.
"Shimpei Hirata has worked closely with us in Europe for many years and has built up excellent relationships both internally and with our European customers", said Suzuki.
"His knowledge of the international semiconductor market is exceptional, and I am in no doubt that the company will prosper under his presidency".
"I am very glad to take up this new challenge with FME in Europe on both professional and personal levels", said Hirata.
"I am attracted by Europe's industrial and cultural traditions and see its strengths in the fields of automotive, mobile communications, and telecommunications, while the market for flat panel displays also continues to grow".
"The team at FME is highly dedicated, and in joining them I look forward to contributing to business development.
I am well aware that difficult times may lie ahead, but remain convinced that today we are ideally positioned to offer value-added service, design and solutions to key European markets".
He concluded on a personal note: "As a music fan I look forward to visiting festivals like Bayreuth and Salzburg, and even to have the opportunity myself to play classical and baroque bassoon in an international setting".
