The Centellis DS 31KX is the industry's first development system for the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA/ATCA) PICMG 3.x open specifications

Intended to give network equipment providers and telecomms equipment makers early technology access, the system allows them to start developing next-generation communications solutions before deployable products are available - increasing in-house expertise and reducing time to market. Configured with two gigabit Ethernet (GigE) base channel switches and a shelf management controller (ShMC) for network remote access, the 14-slot/13U Centellis DS 31KX offers several design options, including single-board computer, PCI mezzanine card (PMC) carrier and storage building blocks.

Force Computers is a Premier Member of the Intel Communications Alliance.

Based on the latest PICMG specifications, the Centellis DS 31KX ATCA system enables immediate development of leading-edge access equipment.

As network equipment providers and telecomms equipment makers were involved from the start of its development, ATCA can define a common communications hardware platform for many technical generations.

This building-block method of infrastructure design enables system development and verification without the need to check ATCA part compatibility.

Because the Centellis DS 31KX is the first in a line of ATCA platforms, its topology easily transfers to field-deployable central office ATCA units.

In addition to an ShMC and dual/redundant MontaVista Carrier Grade Edition Linux/1.6GHz Mobile Intel Pentium 4 processor-M blades and GigE base channel switches, it features: SNMP-based remote access to backplane slots; four GigE Sx and two GigE Tx front-panel uplinks; and forced air cooling - up to 200W per blade.

"Force's Centellis DS 31KX system is a good example of how our new, standards-based development environment can accelerate our mutual customers' ability to develop new network processor-based products and demonstrate new revenue generating services to ISPs/telcos", said Doug Davis, General Manager of Intel's Network Processor Division.

The Centellis DS 31KX development system will be available through Force's Early Access Unit programme in Q4 2003.
