Flotherm V3.2 is the latest edition of its award-winning, design-class thermal analysis software from Flomerics.
New to Flotherm V3.2 is a "Design of experiments" capability, which intelligently selects the optimum values for a number of different design variables.
Also new is the ability to model two or more cooling fluids; and new "drag and drop" graphical user interface enhancements.
Optimising the cooling system for an electronic product involves juggling many design variables such as airflow rate, vent locations, Heatsink size etc.
Exploring all the design alternatives is extremely time-consuming, even given the power of today's computers.
The "Design of experiments" software, created by the Centre for Quantitative Methods (CQM) in the Netherlands, intelligently selects which calculations to run from the full range of possibilities defined by the user.
This avoids the need to simulate all possible design combinations, dramatically reducing the number of simulations conducted, so helping to slash the time taken to optimise thermal designs.
On another front, market demands for the incorporation of liquid cooling systems within electronic designs has prompted Flomerics to implement a new feature that enables engineers to model two or more fluids within each simulation.
For example, heat exchangers, which cool air using cold liquids, can now be modelled accurately.
Flotherm V3.2's improved graphical user interface also allows users to change the hierarchy of parts and assemblies on the fly, working in the project manager window to drag and drop items during model creation.
Flotherm V3.2 is designed to run on Windows 2000, NT, HP, Sun, IBM and SGI platforms.
The upgrade is free to existing users.
Annual licences for Flotherm V3.2 start at GBP 12,300.
