The programme for the Future Horizons 13th Annual International Electronics Forum will feature some of the electronics industries most senior figures. The international event will take place in Prague from 2nd to 6th May 2004 and is entitled "Innovation and infrastructure - empowering the nanotechnology revolution". The Future Horizons 13th Annual International Electronics Forum will examine the opportunities facing the electronics industry now that it has emerged from the worst recession in its history.
2004 will see industry growth of more than 30% in value, according to Future Horizons 2004 "Annual international forecast", driven by a unique coincidence of strong end user demand, a strong global economy and tight production capacity.
The forecast predicts that the worldwide semiconductor market will see growth of 32.0% in 2004 to $220.3 billion, and 28.0% in 2005 to $281.0 billion, prior to a downward cycle of -8.0% in 2006 to $259.4 billion.
Growth is forecast to return to the sector in 2007 and 2008 as it reverts to a cyclical nature.
Innovation remains the lifeblood of the industry: the focus on nanotechnology at the forum recognises the opportunity for the electronics industry of the convergence of emerging technologies such and manufacturing miniaturisation.
"Biotechnology, neuroscience and MEMS are no longer the stuff of science fiction.
Combined with submicron manufacturing they pave the way to a plethora of new applications.
Innovation is what the industry does best and its what the industry will be discussing at the International Electronics Forum", said Malcolm Penn, Chief Executive Officer, Future Horizons.
