Two new 1200V IGBT modules from Fairchild Semiconductor are designed for optimised on-state loss against turn-off switching loss

The FMG2G50US120 and FMG2G75US120 provide remarkably low overall power loss for welding machines, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and general inverters in the 10-30kHz operating frequency range. Fairchild's FMG2G75US120 reduces power losses by up to 20% compared with competing parts using non-punch-through (NPT) technology.

(Test conditions in a CO2 welding application yielded significant results: 20kHz switching frequency, 380V three-phase input, 300A output, 40A current peak at full load, and 20% duty maximum at full load).

To fulfil the high reliability requirements in targeted industrial applications, Fairchild's new 1200V IGBT power modules also provide an exceptionally low variation of on-state loss over temperature.

The 75A-rated FMG2G75US120 provides a maximum variation of only 0.1V from 25 to 125C.

Both 1200V devices feature a full, 10us short circuit withstand time and square reverse biased safe operating area (RBSOA) to enhance system ruggedness.

The newly released 1200V IGBT modules enhance Fairchild's growing IGBT module portfolio.

These modules include the market's only 600V/300A and 400A low saturation IGBT modules, specifically designed for the secondary side of AC/DC arc welding machines, as well as 600V/50-400A standard IGBT modules.

The FMG2G50US120 and FMG2G75US120 are available in 2-PAK module packaging and are UL certified.

The introduction of 1200V IGBT modules broadens Fairchild's portfolio of products targeting industrial applications including a variety of solutions for AC/DC conversion, DC/AC conversion, motion and speed control, isolation, data acquisition, indicators and displays, and DC/DC conversion.
