"Examples of achievements by Fairchild's Global Power Resource Centres include reduction in part count in a colour TV power supply from 200 to 60 devices, a 60% reduction in board space for automotive ignition control systems, and the implementation of an ultraslim power supply design for an LCD TV".
Able to turn around designs as quickly as two weeks, the Shenzhen and Shanghai Centres provide customers with fully engineered solutions including demo boards, detailed information for bills of materials (BOMs) and turnkey designs including Orcad and GerberEx files that can be incorporated into their own solutions and application notes.
Fairchild has six centres worldwide, four are located in Asia: Shanghai and Shenzhen, China; Bucheon, Korea; and Taipei, Taiwan.
Fairchild is increasing headcount and ramping capacity at its assembly and test facility and automated warehouse in Suzhou.
The facility, opened in Q3 2003, initially employed 570.
Today it has nearly 820 employees.
By 2005 the headcount is expected to reach nearly 2000 and on completion of the second phase, approximately 3500 people are expected to work at the plant.
"Fairchild is recognised worldwide as 'The Power Franchise' and the Asia region represents more than 70% of the company's revenues".
"Our power market share position in Asia is double that of our nearest competitor".
"In the power management chip area, we ranked number-one in terms of Asia market share in 2003, number-three in analogue ICs in Asia, and number-one in power semiconductors in China in 2003, according to research analyst firm Gartner", continued Kuo.
"Through strategic relationships with customers - such as the joint product development lab with Changhong - and joint research and development programmes with major Chinese universities, expansion of the Global Power Resource Centres, new channel agreements and expanded production capabilities, we plan on increasing our number-one leadership position".
