The FTB-8120 and FTB-8130 Transport Blazer Sonet/SDH test modules are designed for use with the recently introduced FTB-200 Compact Platform

EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering has launched the FTB-8120 and FTB-8130 Transport Blazer Sonet/SDH test modules for the recently introduced FTB-200 Compact Platform. The FTB-8120 Transport Blazer supports test signals from 64Kbit/s (DS0/E0) up to 2.5Gbit/s (OC-48/STM-16), with upgradeability to 10Gbit/s (OC-192/STM-64), ensuring that customers' investments can be leveraged as their future testing needs evolve.

The FTB-8120 Transport Blazer is also available in 155Mbit/s (OC-3/STM-1) or 622Mbit/s (OC-12/STM-4) configurations, offering users a wider range of options to better meet their immediate testing requirements without sacrificing upgradeability.

The FTB-8130 Transport Blazer offers a full range of testing rates from 64Kbit/s to 10Gbit/s.

Both test modules support an extensive list of DSN, Sonet, PDH and SDH features, allowing users to perform a wide range of tests from simple bit-error rate (BER) analysis to more advanced network characterisation and troubleshooting.

Optional next-generation Sonet/SDH hardware versions for both modules offer a smooth upgradeability path to Ethernet-over-Sonet/SDH test functions.

The combination of advanced Sonet/SDH testing capabilities with the small and lightweight FTB-200 platform delivers the industry's most versatile and technically advanced handheld Sonet/SDH test solution on the market.

The FTB-8120 and FTB-8130 Transport Blazer modules also come equipped with EXFO's exclusive SmartMode feature.

SmartMode provides automatic discovery of the Sonet/SDH signal structure and real-time monitoring of all discovered high-order paths as well as user-defined low-order paths, providing the ideal solution for quick and simple isolation of network faults.

EXFO is the first and only vendor to offer a powerful, multichannel Sonet/SDH monitoring solution in a compact platform.

'Network operators worldwide are increasingly looking for more compact test solutions to fulfil their day-to-day testing duties without sacrificing functionality and upgradeability', said Benoit Fleury, EXFO's Vice-President of Protocol-Layer Product Management.

'The FTB-8120 and FTB-8130 modules, combined with the leading edge FTB-200's full suite of optical and protocol test modules, are establishing the new standard in the industry by offering field technicians all the critical test elements to quickly and efficiently turn up, maintain, and troubleshoot Sonet/SDH networks in a single, reasonably priced, future-proof solution'.

The FTB-8120 and FTB-8130 modules will be showcased at OFC/NFOEC, Booth 1401 in Anaheim, California, from 7th to 9th March 2006; at CeBIT, Booth C18/Hall 16, in Hanover, Germany, from 9th to 15th March 2006; and at TelecomNext, Booth 261 in Las Vegas, Nevada, from 20th to 22nd March 2006.
