Elma has extended its military enclosure range with a modular air transport rack chassis that combines low cost with short lead times, and offers a wide range of sizes and backplane technologies

To protect COTS electronics from the rigours of deployment in military vehicles, Elma has extended its military enclosure range with a modular ATR (air transport rack) chassis that combines low cost with short lead times, and offers a wide range of sizes and backplane technologies. The range includes isolated military power supplies from 150-750W, and versatile I/O cabling including long-pin backplanes for transition boards, sub-buses etc.

The modular approach minimises NRE costs in complying with MIL-STD-5400, -810E, 461E, 704E, -1275A, -167 for VME, VME64x and cPCI systems, whether for land, sea or airborne military vehicles.

The ATR chassis family has been developed to provide a versatile solution for the military applications of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) electronics, providing the more benign environment necessary for the survival of COTS cards.

Two chassis depths offer a choice of minimised weight or maximum I/O, while four ARINC 404A formats (0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.5 ATR) provide the flexibility to match 5-, 7-, 12- or 15-slot requirements.

Every configuration enables slot mechanics to be easily customised to suit specific boards, while advanced cage design ensures up to 470ft3/min airflow, backed by fan failure indication and an optional fan speed signal.

Air intake and exhaust both feature honeycomb air filters for maximum airflow with optimum EMC performance, and an easily removable electrostatic filter is also provided to help control dust.

In addition to the configuration flexibility of Elma's ATR chassis, the front panel is removable for customising I/O requirements, while removable panels to the rear, top and bottom ensure easy access.

Elma can even offer custom backplanes, or additional I/O space below the backplane on some models, and with 11 power supply output options from 150 to 750W, and three inputs including 28V DC and military 90-230V 40-440Hz AC, a complete turnkey packaging solution can be configured with minimum lead time or risk.

Each assembled and tested chassis is complete with a two-year guarantee.
