Bus adapters bring WiMAX to workstations

Adapters allow the use of PCMCIA cards in any workstation that has an available PCI slot but does not have a built in PCMCIA port.

Despite the current WiMAX marketing focus on mobile notebooks, Elan Digital reckons connecting fixed workstations is likely to be a significant proportion of the overall fast growing WiMAX market.

The company is seeing a worldwide surge in interest in its P-Series adapters, all of which now support any PCMCIA compliant modem card.

The adapters allow the use of PCMCIA cards in any workstation that has an available PCI slot but does not have a built in PCMCIA port.

And the company estimates that this is the case for a very high proportion of existing machines.

There are two different P-Series models providing full support for PCMCIA 16bit cards and three different P-Series models supporting 32bit Cardbus devices, including both single- and twin-slot versions.

Each of these adapters provides trouble-free installation in Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems and in just about any standard hardware platform available.

The design of the P311 adapter is especially suitable for newer low-profile workstations.
