Mobile data cards set for expansion

Elan Digital Systems is predicting that the falling costs of Internet access via GPRS/CDMA and 3G data services will mean that businesses will stop using landlines in favour of mobile data cards.
Elan is a specialist in PCMCIA technology and the creator of the P Series range of adapters for desktops, integrated into PC systems by many top OEMs.
"For easy high speed connection all you need is the one card to swap from your laptop on the move to your desktop at your home or office and all the billing goes to one address", says Julian Barnard, Elan's Managing Director.
"It's such a simple, convenient solution.
Now that the costs are coming down to a realistic level, we predict that it will be the connection of choice for businesses very shortly and our product facilitates the desktop implementation".
Major network operators are already targeting business users and Elan believes that they will soon look for business that has hitherto normally been the province of landline service providers.
Additionally, subscribers in geographical areas where fixed line access is a problem could see this solution as a better alternative than dial-up.
Elan's P series adapters provide the ideal platform for desktop applications.
Increasing sales of P-Series adapters are bearing this out, as the GPRS and CDMA and 3G networks become increasingly popular for consumers.
Patented hardware and software design ensures compatibility with all major OS and PC motherboards.
Additionally, all other types of PCMCIA compliant cards are supported.
