Forum releases technical reports and elects board
The DSL Forum has released its latest Technical Reports (TRs) and the results of elections held at its annual meeting in Vancouver, Canada, from 5th to 8th March, 2007
The diverse vendor participation demonstrates the strength of market adoption of the DSL Forum's suite of DSLHome specifications.
Providing a comprehensive framework for deployment and management of next generation home networking equipment, TR-069 defines a CPE WAN management protocol for remote activation of routers, gateways and other premises devices.
Together with its extensions, TR-104 for VoIP and TR-098 for QoS, the protocol specifies parameters for automated configuration, service provisioning and other management functions including diagnostics.
This set of specifications enables a common mechanism for dynamic provisioning of voice, data and video triple play services.
Their implementation allows service providers to reduce 'truck rolls' to deliver services, improve customer support for primary and advanced applications, and enhance overall residential and business subscriber satisfaction.

'Home network auto-configuration and remote management is emerging as one of the top service requirements for broadband providers'.
'Interoperability from the auto-configuration servers in the network to various home devices, means improved service as well as choice of supplier for the service provider and the subscriber', said Michael Brusca, Chairman of the DSL Forum.
'The success of this inaugural TR-069 interoperability test event is a clear sign that the DSL Forum has not only achieved success at specifying the protocol but has also demonstrated multi-vendor interoperability at the higher layers'.
'As vendors increasingly commit to interoperability testing, we as an industry, expedite delivery of triple play services using TR-069 capable products into the broadband market'.
More than 45 engineers from 17 companies came together at the UNH-IOL in Durham, New Hampshire, USA, with participants from across North America, Europe, and Asia.
Vendors of TR-069 management systems, known as auto-configuration servers (ACS), were represented, as were router, gateway and VoIP device manufacturers and silicon vendors.
Vendors valued this test event's role in improving their implementation and providing a unique opportunity to focus on interoperability testing in a neutral environment.
'I was impressed with the sheer number and professionalism of all the participants', commented Matthew Langlois, DSL Consortium Manager at the UNH-IOL.
'The environment was extremely collaborative'.
'Vendors demonstrated a strong willingness to work together to achieve interoperability and commitment to moving TR-069 forward'.
Continuing development of the DSLHome body of work remains a priority for the DSL Forum, and the test event comes on the heels of the recent announcement of a newly approved trio of TRs that build on TR-069 for added support of QoS and VoIP.
Further test events are being planned to continue to improve real-world interoperability to DSL Forum Technical Reports so that service providers can quickly evolve their networks in support of emerging services such as VoIP and IPTV.
Vendors are encouraged to join the DSL Forum and to participate in future test events.
