Twenty companies converged at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory for the DSL Forum's first BroadbandAccess VDSL2 System Integrator Interoperability Plugfest

Twenty companies converged at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) in the USA, for the DSL Forum's first BroadbandAccess VDSL2 System Integrator Interoperability Plugfest, from 11th to 15th September 2006. This interoperability event united companies implementing the next generation of broadband network access, building on the success of the three DSL Forum Chip Vendor Interoperability events to date.

Participating companies included system integrators, silicon vendors and test equipment providers.

VDSL2 enables service providers to deliver up to one hundred megabits per second over the existing copper phone network.

The expanded datarates are a component of the DSL Forum's BroadbandAccess blueprint for the deployment of key applications such as IPTV.

'In this event, progress was accelerated by the community of component makers and equipment vendors working together right from the start - the development phase of VDSL2 technology', said Michael Brusca, Chairman and President of the DSL Forum.

'Interoperability is of prime importance at this stage, and the DSL Forum recognises and supports the drive for high quality, interoperable products'.

'The success of this event and the demand for further test events shows the industry's commitment to developing broadband technologies that speed and facilitate the deployment of triple-play services'.

BroadbandAccess is one of the three channels of work in the DSL Forum's BroadbandSuite, a new initiative that is focused on developing the end-to-end solution for service delivery of advanced services.

The 20 participating companies brought over 45 engineers from around the world to the UNH-IOL facility.

This VDSL2 testing series, in addition to other test events sponsored by the DSL Forum, continued to improve interoperability of products implementing DSL Forum Technical Reports.
