The TotalDisplay is a versatile controller board for use in TFT LCD display applications

Based on the Cirrus Logic EP9312 ARM9-based embedded processor, the TotalDisplay is a compact and low-power unit, making it ideal for use in all types of display applications, in particular portable and mobile displays. It supports high levels of definition and colour depth. Designed to simplify the task of integrating a display, the TotalDisplay can be supplied ready for use with a wide variety of popular LCD panels ranging in resolution from VGA to XGA.

Bharat Gupta of Dexdyne said: "The TotalDisplay board makes it much easier for system designers to incorporate displays into their systems; it takes care of all the necessary functions, such as controlling the backlight.

We chose the Cirrus EP9312 chip because it was the most integrated of all the options we considered, and for its highly flexible graphics controller.

The result is a very compact, low-power board ideal for portable and mobile applications, such as retail terminals and in-car multimedia systems".

"Dexdyne has once again proven their reputation for small form factor innovative designs by being one of the first to bring to market a product based on the Cirrus Logic EP9312", said Jean Anne Booth, Director of Embedded Products Marketing, Cirrus Logic.

"The flexibility of the TotalDisplay showcases the platform's suitability of the Cirrus Logic EP9312 universal platform system-on-a-chip processor".

The TotalDisplay is a very low power controller, consuming less than 2W at 200MHz.

It supports display resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 x 18bit VGA, and drives both local and remote displays (using LVDS).

The TotalDisplay can be supplied with either Linux or WinCE.NET; it supports up to 32Mbyte of onboard Flash memory, and up to 128Mbyte of SDRAM.

Other features include a socket for a removable CompactFlash drive, onboard 2.5in IDE hard disk option, touch screen interface, AT keyboard support, and 10/100 Ethernet.

All of these are contained on a board measuring only 140 x 90 x 25mm, making it very suitable for applications where space is at a premium.

The TotalDisplay board is now in production.

Evaluation systems running Linux are available now for Eur 500; volume and OEM pricing on application.
