Interface marries military
databus to PCI
The BU-65566 MIL-STD-1553 PMC card provides a complete commercial-off-the-shelf solution for interfacing between a PCIbus and one or more MIL-STD-1553 databuses
MIL-STD-1553 is the dual redundant databus used on the majority of the western world's military aircraft and in many other space and defence systems. The conduction-cooled BU-65566 succeeds DDC's BU-65565 and enables faster (66MHz) processing. It also features a secondary thermal interface that meets theVITA-20-2001 specification and runs on only 5V.

Fibre Channel adapters adopt PMC format
The new FibreAccess PMC modules offer all the functionality of the existing FibreAccess network access controllers (NACs) at lower cost and reduced power consumption
Mike Hegarty, DDC Product Marketing Manager, explains, "We're committed to keeping pace with emerging trends in the industry and we're seeing more and more base processor cards [with which DDC cards interface] operating at 66MHz.
By offering a PMC card that functions at the same speed we're allowing the base card to talk to other devices at its maximum speed".
The BU-65566, which is currently shipping, provides a 32bit PCI interface that operates at clock speeds up to 66MHz.

It also allows the base CPU PCIbus to run at 66MHz.
According to Hegarty, "This allows other high-speed devices on the bus to exploit the higher bandwidth.
In contrast, a 33MHz PMC card on a 66MHz bus forces the bus to slow down to 33MHz".
This is the first such interface card to offer a 66MHz target interface.
In addition to a primary thermal interface, the BU-65566's secondary thermal interface reduces thermal rise and is compatible with an expanded array of commercially available single-board computers.
The BU-65566 minimises power consumption by using 3.3V power for its PCI interface and MIL-STD-1553 logic, eliminating the need to add a separate 3V supply to the base card.
The BU-65566 supports up to four channels to provide the highest density in the COTS market.
Each MIL-STD-1553 channel may be independently programmed for BC, RT, MT, or RT/MT modes.
This provides support for MIL-STD-1553A/B, STANAG-3838, McAir, and MIL-STD-1760.
The BU-65566 is compatible with older generation ACE and Mini-ACE (Plus) series, and DDC's dataMARS/dataSIMS software.
Applications for the BU-65566 include embedded avionics, flight computers, and avionics systems, as well as mission and weapons computers and radar systems.
