New from Crellon Microsystems is the Adlink cPXIS-2100 series PXI instrument chassis system

By combining Ethernet and USB connectivity with seven PXI peripheral slots and optional TFT LCD, the cPXIS-2100 allows designers to build high performance, high throughput test, measurement or control systems quickly and cost effectively. Built into a 19in 4U rack-mount chassis, the cPXIS-2100 includes one system controller and seven PXI/CompactPCI slots, auto-switched 250W power supply and filtered, forced-air 50ft3/min cooling system.

It is able to operate at up to 10,000ft and withstand 0.5G vibration while operating.

A wide range of peripheral and data acquisition modules is also available, including a choice of CPU cards up to 850MHz Pentium III, as well as multifunction cards that offer features such as simultaneous sampling.

Bundled software with the multifunction cards includes drivers for Matlab, LabView, DasyLab and Linux systems, allowing test software development cycles to be minimised to meet stringent time to market demands.

The built-in Ethernet and USB interfaces allow easy connectivity to a host PC, while the optional 6.4in TFT LCD included in the cPXIS-2150 variant displays results on-site without the need for a separate monitor.

Applications for the cPXIS-2100 system include test and measurement in laboratory and manufacturing scenarios including six-sigma manufacturing, industrial automation and data acquisition challenges requiring sophisticated, compact portable or bench-top instrumentation.

The small size, low cost, and flexibility of PXI make it applicable to a wide set of applications, including research, desktop ATE, field measurement, and high-end manufacturing test.

The PXI architecture of the cPXIS-2100 system also allows vision, motion, and real-time controls to be integrated into the same platform as the traditional electrical measurements, lowering overall equipment costs and permitting a greater degree of integration between these systems.

PXI (PCI extensions for instrumentation) enables PC-based test and measurement systems for rugged real-world environments.

It is an open industrial specification that extends CompactPCI for test, measurement and automation applications, and has become the preferred approach worldwide.

By using the industry-standard PCIbus, PXI offers data throughput of up to 132Mbyte/s, which is more than 100 times faster than the throughput of a GPIB device.

This allows rapid transfer of measurement data from the measurement device to the computer, enabling the test time for a device to be significantly reduced.

Additional PXI enhancements include star triggering capability, which allows several PXI devices to be tightly synchronized on common trigger or clock signals, as well as a system reference clock and local bus to provide the system timing capability while retaining complete interoperability with CompactPCI.

Crellon Microsystems is offering the full range of test and measurement, applied computing and automation solutions from Taiwan-based Adlink, including CPU and peripheral modules for the cPXIS-2100 and other test and measurement systems.
