Lightweight UV pen promises a speedy cure
The CoolLED 2600 is a small, lightweight and inherently safe LED UV curing pen that produces bursts of high intensity UV visible light capable of light curing products within seconds.
The CoolLED 2600 is a small, lightweight and inherently safe LED UV curing pen that produces bursts of high intensity UV visible light capable of light curing products within seconds.
Measuring only 128mm long and 23mm in diameter, this highly portable unit weighs a mere 57g - less than two ounces.
It is the product of a new, patent pending technology known as CoolLED that produces densely packed, thermally efficient LED arrays with a power that will open up endless possibilities for UV curing.
It will be ideal for adhesive bonding of glass, metals and plastic components and for applications such as wire tacking and component support.
Conventional methods of creating UV light produce multiple peaks of UV radiation that are potentially hazardous.
The CoolLED pen operates within a Class 1M safety classification because, with LEDs, only a single peak of energy is generated and the emission from the pen is strictly controlled to minimise the risk to eyes and skin.
In addition, because LEDs can be switched on and off instantly, no warm up period is required.
The system is also mercury and ozone free and generates no heat from infra-red radiation.
Simplicity of use is the keynote of this new product.
It is merely a question of applying the adhesive, lining up the components and pressing the start button of the CoolLED 2600.
The pen can be operated in two modes: a fast five-second burst of full power or by gradual power increase for low stress curing.
The pen is initiated by a single push of a start button and each burst is followed by a 15 seconds lock-out period with the start button inhibited.
This restricts the temperature rise of the LEDs, providing a life of over 10,000 hours, and ensures the operator is only exposed to safe levels of UV light and requires no protective clothing or goggles.
The pen is normally mains operated but for applications in remote locations or where the operator requires full mobility, an optional, rechargeable, belt-clip, battery pack is available.
Battery life between charging, with maximum usage, is eight hours with a recharging time of four hours.
The spectral output is 385-400nm with a primary peak of 395nm and power requirement is 110-240V AC, 50-60Hz.
Typical output at source is 0.8W/cm2.
